Atlantic University is an American institution of higher education in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It is associated with an Edgar Cayce organization, the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.). Its offices are in the A.R.E. headquarters.
History
The university was founded in 1930 as a four-year university, but closed two years later due to the Great Depression. It was restarted in 1985 as an M.A. program in Transpersonal Studies, conducted mainly through distance education. The first class graduated in 1989.
A few courses are offered as residentials, either at A.R.E. headquarters or at other locations in Virginia. The program contains six tracks: applied spirituality, consciousness, creativity, general studies, leadership and conflict transformation, and transpersonal visual arts.
The school is nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council and licensed to operate by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. Although nationally-accredited, Atlantic University is not a Title IV institution and therefore does not offer Federal Aid.
