History

Founded by William R. Laurie in 1965. American Heritage, (also known as AHS, or simply "Heritage") is modeled after Southern universities, in both its buildings and curriculum. AHS is divided into two partially independent institutions, American Heritage and American Academy.

Academics

Through American Heritage's liberal-arts curriculum, students are instructed and supported by small class sizes in each of the three divisions: Pre Primary School (Pre-K through kindergarten), Lower School (grades 1 through grade 6), and Upper School (grades 7 through 12). The college preparatory curriculum at American Heritage serves "to develop critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities, and lifelong learning." There are over 50 student clubs and organizations, and multiple service opportunities on and off campus including pre law, pre engineering, and pre med programs. American Heritage is currently ranked the number one private school in the nation for Mu Alpha Theta and number two in the nation out of all public and private schools. The school boasts a powerful applied mathematics team that co-won the international COMAP High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM) and made the Semi-Finalist distinction for Moody's Mega Math Challenge in the same year (2014).
